GLI History

Global Links Initiative started on 1st October 2003, was incorporated as a 'Company Limited by Guarantee' (Number 5176983) on 12th July 2004, and was given UK Charitable status (Charity Number 1110013) on 13th May 2005.

By February 2005, aside from our Team Members, 13 other 'networkers' had registered with us via the website. They came from the UK, Japan, China, Singapore and South Africa.

The English website was launched March 2004 and the three language version - adding Chinese and Japanese - in August 2004. Our email newsletter - News Mail - is sent out from China and the UK each month to more than 500 people in addition to our networkers.

In March 2006, we set up an office in Shanghai and we subsquently set up an office in Tokyo for use by our Staff and Volunteer Team there and by Fan when she visits.

Regrettably Robin Rowland, Co-Founder and Chief Executive of Global Links Initiative passed away in March 2009.

In June 2009 we announced a partnership with UnLtdWorld to help encourage our Networkers to collaborate online. UnLtdWorld offers social innovators and social entrepreneurs an online platform to connect and work with each other.

From Dec 2009, the programmes of Global Links Initiative in the Asia Pacific Region will be run independently by the local team under the leadership of Fan LI, the co-founder of Global Links Initiative. The initiative in the Asia Pacific Region will be affiliated with Global Links Initiative in the UK.
